Chapter 66: The History of Lord Śiva’s bow
Text 1.66.8

देवरात इति ख्यातो निमेः षष्ठो महीपतिः।
न्यासोऽयं तस्य भगवन्हस्ते दत्तो महात्मना॥

devarāta iti khyāto nimeḥ ṣaṣṭho mahī-patiḥ
nyāso
‘yaṁ tasya bhagavan haste datto mahātmanā

devarāta iti khyātaḥ = Devarāta is famous; nimeḥ = [in line] from Nimi; ṣaṣṭhaḥ = as being the sixth; mahī-patiḥ = King; nyāsaḥ = in trust for custodial care; ayam = this bow; tasya = to his; bhagavan = O powerful one; haste = hand; dattaḥ = was given; mahā-ātmanā = by the great soul Śiva.

O powerful one, King Devarāta is famous as being the sixth king [in line] from Nimi. This bow was given to his hand by the great soul Śiva in trust for custodial care.

Nimi was the originator of the Janaka lineage [from Mithilā]. Janaka’s statement is elaborately explained from the next verse.
