Chapter 70: Rāma’s Noble Lineage
Text 1.70.1

ततः प्रभाते जनकः कृतकर्मा महर्षिभिः।
उवाच वाक्यं वाक्यज्ञः शतानन्दं पुरोहितम्॥

tataḥ prabhāte janakaḥ kṛta-karmā maha-rṣibhiḥ
uvāca
vākyaṁ vākyajñaḥ śatānandaṁ purohitam

tataḥ = then; prabhāte = next morning; janakaḥ = Janaka; kṛta-karmā = completed his sacrificial duties and so on; maha-rṣibhiḥ = with the great sages; uvāca = he spoke; vākyam = the following words; vākyajñaḥ = skilled in speech; śatānandam = Śatānanda; purohitam = priest.

Then next morning Janaka completed his sacrificial duties and so on with the great sages. Skilled in speech, he spoke the following words to his priest Śatānanda.

In this chapter, the descendants of Ikṣvāku are described in order to point out that Daśaratha was fit for a matrimonial alliance with Janaka.
