Chapter 70: Rāma’s Noble Lineage
Text 1.70.26-27

यशस्वी ध्रुवसन्धेस्तु भरतो नाम नामतः।
भरतात्तु महातेजा असितो नाम जातवान्॥

यस्यैते प्रतिराजान उदपद्यन्त शत्रवः।
हैहयास्तालजङ्घाश्च शूराश्च शशबिन्दवः॥

yaśasvī dhruvasandhes tu bharato nāma nāmataḥ
bharatāt
tu mahā-tejā asito nāma jātavān

yasyaite pratirājāna udapadyanta śatravaḥ
haihayās
tālajaṅghāś ca śūrāś ca śaśabindavaḥ

yaśasvī = the famous one; dhruvasandheḥ tu = was born from Dhruvasandhi; bharataḥ = Bharata; nāma = named; nāmataḥ = from that famous; bharatāt tu = Bharata; mahā-tejāḥ = the one of great prowess; asitaḥ = Asita; nāma = named; jātavān = was born; yasya ete = to fight him; prati-rājānaḥ = opponent kings; udapadyanta = took birth; śatravaḥ = several destructive; haihayāḥ = the Haihayas; tālajaṅghāḥ ca = Tālajaṅghas; śūrāḥ ca = and the heroic; śaśabindavaḥ = Śaśabindus.

The famous one named Bharata was born from Dhruvasandhi. From that famous Bharata, the one of great prowess named Asita took birth. To fight him, several destructive opponent kings—the Haihayas, Tālajaṅghas and the heroic Śaśabindus—took birth.
