Chapter 70: Rāma’s Noble Lineage
Text 1.70.30
द्वे चास्य भार्ये गर्भिण्यौ बभूवतुरिति श्रुतम्।
एका गर्भविनाशाय सपत्न्यै सगरं ददौ॥
dve cāsya bhārye garbhiṇyau babhūvatur iti śrutam
ekā garbha-vināśāya sapatnyai sagaraṁ dadau
dve ca asya bhārye = his two wives; garbhiṇyau babhūvatuḥ = were pregnant; iti śrutam = we hear from authorities that; ekā = one of them; garbha-vināśāya = to destroy the child in the co-wife’s womb; sa-patnyai = to her co-wife; sa-garam = food mixed with poison; dadau = gave.
We hear from authorities that his two wives were pregnant. One of them gave food mixed with poison to her co-wife to destroy the child in the co-wife’s womb.
