Text 1.70.40
रघोस्तु पुत्रस्तेजस्वी प्रवृद्धः पुरुषादकः।
कल्माषपादो ह्यभवत्तस्माज्जातश्च शङ्खणः॥
raghos tu putras tejasvī pravṛddhaḥ puruṣādakaḥ
kalmāṣapādo hy abhavat tasmāj jātaś ca śaṅkhaṇaḥ
raghu tu putraḥ = Raghu’s son; tejasvīḥ = was the powerful; pravṛddhaḥ = Pravṛddha; puruṣādakaḥ = who became a rākṣasa; kalmāṣapādaḥ hi abhavat = he became known as Kalmāṣapāda; tasmāt = from him; jātaḥ ca śaṅkhaṇaḥ = was born Śaṅkhaṇa.
Raghu’s son was the powerful Pravṛddha who became a rākṣasa. He became known as Kalmāṣapāda. From him was born Śaṅkhaṇa.
Raghu’s son was previously known as Pravṛddha. By Vasiṣṭha’s curse, he became a rākṣasa. When he had taken water to countercurse Vasiṣṭha, his wife pleaded with him [to desist]; the water spilled on his feet because of which he was called Kalmāṣapāda.
