आदिवंशविशुद्धानां राज्ञां परमधर्मिणाम्।
इक्ष्वाकुकुलजातानां वीराणां सत्यवादिनाम्॥
रामलक्ष्मणयोरर्थे त्वत्सुते वरये नृप।
सदृशाभ्यां नरश्रेष्ठ सदृशे दतुम् अर्हसि॥
ādi-vaṁśa-viśuddhānāṁ rājñāṁ parama-dharmiṇām
ikṣvāku-kula-jātānāṁ vīrāṇāṁ satya-vādinām
rāma-lakṣmaṇayor arthe tvat-sute varaye nṛpa
sadṛśābhyāṁ nara-śreṣṭha sadṛśe datum arhasi
ādi-vaṁśa-viśuddhānām = who have been pure since the beginning; rājñām = [of a lineage] of kings; parama-dharmiṇām = who have been extremely devoted to dharma; ikṣvāku-kula-jātānām = who have taken birth in the dynasty of Ikṣvāku; vīrāṇām = who have been heroic and; satya-vādinām = who have [only] spoken the truth; rāma-lakṣmaṇayoḥ arthe = for Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa; tvat-sute = your two daughters; varaye I accept; nṛpa = O king; sadṛśābhyām = the likeminded girls; nara-śreṣṭha = O king; sadṛśe = to the likeminded boys [respectively]; datum arhasi = should be handed over.
O king, I accept your two daughters for Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa [of a lineage] of kings who have been pure since the beginning, who have been extremely devoted to dharma, who have taken birth in the dynasty of Ikṣvāku, who have been heroic and who have [only] spoken the truth. O king, the likeminded girls should be handed over to the likeminded boys [respectively].
Vasiṣṭha accepts the girls [for Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa] because that is the duty of the [royal] priest.
