वृद्धे पितरि स्वर् याते धर्मेण धुरमावहम्।
भ्रातरं देवसङ्काशं स्नेहात्पश्यन्कुशध्वजम्॥
vṛddhe pitari svar yāte dharmeṇa dhuram āvaham
bhrātaraṁ deva-saṅkāśaṁ snehāt paśyan kuśadhvajam
vṛddhe pitari = when our elderly father; svaryāte = had ascended to the heavens; dharmeṇa = in accordance with the principles of Vedic dharma; dhuram āvaham = I took up the responsibility to rule the kingdom; bhrātaram = of my brother; deva-saṅkāśam = who resembles a deva; snehāt = affectionately; paśyan = while taking care; kuśadhvajam = Kuśadhvaja.
When our elderly father had ascended to the heavens, in accordance with the principles of Vedic dharma I took up the responsibility to rule the kingdom while affectionately taking care of my brother Kuśadhvaja who resembles a deva.
