Chapter 71: Sītā’s Noble Lineage

प्रदाने हि मुनिश्रेष्ठ कुलं निरवशेषतः।
वक्तव्यं कुलजातेन तन्निबोध महामुने॥
pradāne hi muni-śreṣṭha kulaṁ niravaśeṣataḥ
vaktavyaṁ kula-jātena tan nibodha mahā-mune
pradāne hi = at the time of giving one’s daughter in charity; muni-śreṣṭha = O best of sages; kulam niravaśeṣataḥ = one’s entire lineage; vaktavyam = should be described; kula-jātena = by those born in a noble family; tat = therefore; nibodha = please listen; mahā-mune = O great sage.
O best of sages, at the time of giving one’s daughter in charity, one’s entire lineage should be described by those born in a noble family. Therefore, O great sage, please listen.
