Chapter 72: Daśaratha’s Charity Before the Wedding
Text 1.72.17
तथा ब्रुवति वैदेहे जनके रघुनन्दनः।
राजा दशरथो हृष्टः प्रत्युवाच महीपतिम्॥
tathā bruvati vaidehe janake raghu-nandanaḥ
rājā daśaratho hṛṣṭaḥ pratyuvāca mahī-patim
tathā = thus; bruvati = when spoke; vaidehe = the ruler of Videha; janake = Janaka; raghu-nandanaḥ = the beloved descendant of Raghu; rājā daśarathaḥ = King Daśaratha; hṛṣṭaḥ = became delighted; pratyuvāca = and replied as follows; mahī-patim = to the king.
When Janaka, the ruler of Videha, spoke thus, the beloved descendant of Raghu, King Daśaratha became delighted and replied as follows to the king.
King Daśaratha became delighted that Janaka spoke the same [as what he wanted to speak to the two sages].
