Chapter 73: The Grand Wedding of Sītā and Rāma
Text 1.73.29

दर्भैः समैः समास्तीर्य विधिवन्मन्त्रपूर्वकम्।
अग्निमाधाय वेद्यां तु विधिमन्त्रपुरस्कृतम्।
जुहावाग्नौ महातेजा वसिष्ठो भगवानृषिः॥

darbhaiḥ samaiḥ samāstīrya vidhivan mantra-pūrvakam
agnim
ādhāya vedyāṁ tu vidhi-mantra-puraskṛtam
juhāvāgnau
mahā-tejā vasiṣṭho bhagavān ṛṣiḥ

darbhaiḥ = darbha grass; samaiḥ = of equal measurement; samāstīrya = spread; vidhivat = in accordance with scriptural injunctions; mantra-pūrvakam = after reciting appropriate mantras; agnim = the sacrificial fire; ādhāya = placed and; vedyām tu = in the wedding pavilion; vidhi-mantra-puraskṛtam = while reciting mantras as prescribed; juhāva = offered oblations; agnau = unto the sacred fire; mahā-tejāḥ = of great prowess; vasiṣṭhaḥ = Vasiṣṭha; bhagavān ṛṣiḥ = the powerful sage.

In accordance with scriptural injunctions, the powerful sage Vasiṣṭha of great prowess spread darbha grass of equal measurement after reciting appropriate mantras, placed the sacrificial fire in the wedding pavilion while reciting mantras as prescribed and offered oblations unto the sacred fire.

This homa, performed before the bridegrooms accept the hands of the brides, was to invoke auspiciousness for them.
