Chapter 73: The Grand Wedding of Sītā and Rāma
Text 1.73.45
ईदृशे वर्तमाने तु तूर्योद्घुष्टनिनादिते।
त्रिरग्निं ते परिक्रम्य ऊहुर्भार्या महौजसः॥
īdṛśe vartamāne tu tūryodghuṣṭa-ninādite
trir agniṁ te parikramya ūhur bhāryā mahaujasaḥ
īdṛśe = thus; vartamāne tu = when; tūrya-udghuṣṭa-ninādite = the celestial music was loudly playing and reverberating; triḥ = thrice; agnim = their respective sacred fire; te = the sons of Daśaratha; parikramya = after circumambulating; ūhuḥ = wedded; bhāryāḥ = Their respective wives; maha-ojasaḥ = of great prowess.
When the celestial music was thus loudly playing and reverberating, the sons of Daśaratha of great prowess wedded Their respective wives after circumambulating their respective sacred fire thrice.
NOTE. We should remember that Lord Rāmacandra and His plenary expansions Lakṣmaṇa, Bharata and Śatrughna are forms of the Personality of Godhead, and the Supreme Personality of Godhead actually does not need to carry out these Vedic duties of meticulously following the wedding ceremonies and so on. Yet, to set an example for us, He does so. He states it thus:
na me pārthāsti kartavyaṁ triṣu lokeṣu kiñcana
nānavāptam avāptavyaṁ varta eva ca karmaṇi
“O son of Pṛthā, there is no work prescribed for Me within all the three planetary systems. Nor am I in want of anything, nor have I a need to obtain anything—and yet I am engaged in prescribed duties.” (Bhagavad-gītā 3.22)
