Text 1.73.9-10

युक्ते मुहूर्ते विजये सर्वाभरणभूषितैः।
भ्रातृभिः सहितो रामः कृतकौतुकमङ्गलः॥

वसिष्ठं पुरतः कृत्वा महर्षीन् अपरानपि।

yukte muhūrte vijaye sarvābharaṇa-bhūṣitaiḥ
bhrātṛbhiḥ
sahito rāmaḥ kṛta-kautuka-maṅgalaḥ

vasiṣṭhaṁ purataḥ kṛtvā maha-rṣīn aparān api
pituḥ
samīpam āśritya tasthau bhrātṛbhir āvṛtaḥ

yukte muhūrte = at an appropriate muhurta; vijaye = that brings about victory; sarva-abharaṇa-bhūṣitaiḥ = who were adorned with all kinds of ornaments; bhrātṛbhiḥ sahitaḥ = accompanied by His brothers; rāmaḥ = Rāma; kṛta-kautuka-maṅgalaḥ = who had worn His marriage thread on His wrist for the auspicious wedding [1]; vasiṣṭham = Vasiṣṭha; purataḥ kṛtvā = kept in front of Them and; maha-rṣīn aparān api = and the other great sages; pituḥ samīpam āśritya = approached His father; tasthau = he stood near him; bhrātṛbhiḥ āvṛtaḥ =with His brothers.

At an appropriate muhurta that brings about victory, Rāma who had worn His marriage thread on His wrist for the auspicious wedding, accompanied by His brothers who were adorned with all kinds of ornaments, kept Vasiṣṭha and the other great sages in front of Them and approached His father. He stood near him with His brothers.

“At an appropriate muhūrta” refers to a muhūrta appropriate for conducting a wedding. Such a muhūrta also brings about victory. [If the conventional meaning of muhūrta as an auspicious time is accepted,] this muhūrta is not the muhūrta known as the vijaya-muhūrta which appears in the afternoon. [This wedding is taking place in the morning, not in the afternoon.] [But] if a muhūrta is understood to mean two ghaṭikās, then the vijaya-muhūrta appears in the morning itself.1

[1] kautukaṁ viṣayābhoge hasta-sūtre. (Amara-kośa)

1 A ghaṭikā equals 24 minutes.
