अथ रात्र्यां व्यतीतायां विश्वामित्रो महामुनिः।
आपृष्ट्वा तौच राजानौ जगामोत्तरपर्वतम्।
आशीर्भिः पूरयित्वा च कुमारांश्च स राघवान्॥
atha rātryāṁ vyatītāyāṁ viśvāmitro mahā-muniḥ
āpṛṣṭvā tau ca rājānau jagāmottara-parvatam
āśīrbhiḥ pūrayitvā ca kumārāṁś ca sa rāghavān
atha rātryām vyatītāyām = when the night had passed; viśvāmitraḥ mahā-muniḥ = great sage Viśvāmitra; āpṛṣṭvā = took permission; tau ca rājānau = from the two kings; jagāma = departed; uttara-parvatam = to the northern mountain [to engage in his penances]; āśīrbhiḥ pūrayitvā = gave all his blessings; ca = and; kumārān ca = upon the four; saḥ = the; rāghavān = descendants of Raghu.
When the night had passed, the great sage Viśvāmitra took permission from the two kings, gave all his blessings upon the four descendants of Raghu and departed to the northern mountain [to engage in his penances].
The son of Jamadagni arrived while Daśaratha, his sons and family members were traveling to Ayodhyā. This is described in this chapter.
Viśvāmitra went to the northern mountain, that is, his residence—the Himālaya.
