Chapter 77: The Newly-wed Couples Reach Ayodhyā
Text 1.77.15

मङ्गलालापनैश्चैव शोभिताः क्षौमवाससः।
देवतायतनान्याशु सर्वास्ताः प्रत्यपूजयन्॥

maṅgalālāpanaiś caiva śobhitāḥ kṣauma-vāsasaḥ
devatāyatanāny
āśu sarvās tāḥ pratyapūjayan

maṅgala-alāpanaiḥ ca eva = upon [hearing] recitations of mantras invoking auspiciousness; śobhitāḥ = the brides shone; kṣauma-vāsasaḥ = in silk clothes; devatā-āyatanāni = at the shrines for their family deities; āśu = quickly; sarvāḥ = all of them; tāḥ pratyapūjayan = performed worship with fragrance, flowers and other items of worship.

In silk clothes, the brides shone upon [hearing] recitations of mantras invoking auspiciousness. Quickly, all of them performed worship at the shrines for their family deities with fragrance, flowers and other items of worship.

In some manuscripts, maṅgalālambhanaiḥ appears in place of maṅgalālāpanaiḥ indicating that the brides shone when sandalwood paste were [ceremoniously] smeared on them. Women are eligible only for home worship.
