Chapter 77: The Newly-wed Couples Reach Ayodhyā
Text 1.77.7-9

चोदयामास तां सेनां जगामाशु ततः पुरीम्॥

पताकाध्वजिनीं रम्यां तूर्योद्घुष्टनिनादिताम्।
सिक्तराजपथां रम्यां प्रकीर्णकुसुमोत्कराम्॥

राजप्रवेशसुमुखैः पौरैर्मङ्गलवादिभिः।
सम्पूर्णां प्राविशद्राजा जनौघैः समलङ्कृताम्॥

codayām āsa tāṁ senāṁ jagāmāśu tataḥ purīm

patākā-dhvajinīṁ ramyāṁ tūryodghuṣṭa-nināditām
sikta-rāja-pathāṁ
ramyāṁ prakīrṇa-kusumotkarām

rāja-praveśa-sumukhaiḥ paurair maṅgala-vādibhiḥ
sampūrṇāṁ
prāviśad rājā janaughaiḥ samalaṅkṛtām

codayām āsa = he ordered; tām senām = the army; jagāma aśu = to quickly go; tataḥ = then; purīm = to his city; patākā-dhvajinīm = his city which had pleasant flags and flag poles; ramyām = it was also pleasantly; tūryodghuṣṭa-nināditām = resounding with the loud sounds of musical instruments; sikta-rāja-pathām ramyām = its royal highways were beautifully sprinkled with water; prakīrṇa-kusuma-utkarām = it was also beautiful with heaps of flowers strewn [here and there]; rāja-praveśa-sumukhaiḥ pauraiḥ = with citizens whose faces were bright because of the king’s entry; maṅgala-vādibhiḥ = and who were uttering statements invoking auspiciousness; sampūrṇām = it was filled; prāviśat = entered; rājā = the king; jana-oghaiḥ = with crowds of people [waiting to see the king and others]; samalaṅkṛtām = and fully decorated.

Then, he ordered the army to quickly go to his city. The king entered his city which had pleasant flags and flag poles. It was also pleasantly resounding with the loud sounds of musical instruments. Its royal highways were beautifully sprinkled with water. It was also beautiful with heaps of flowers strewn [here and there]. It was filled with citizens whose faces were bright because of the king’s entry and who were uttering statements invoking auspiciousness, and fully decorated with crowds of people [waiting to see the king and others].
