Chapter 8: Daśaratha Decides to Perform the Aśvamedha Sacrifice

सम्भाराः सम्भ्रियन्तां मे गुरूणां वचनादिह।
समर्थाधिष्ठितश्चाश्वः सोपाध्यायो विमुच्यताम्॥
sambhārāḥ sambhriyantāṁ me gurūṇāṁ vacanād iha
samarthādhiṣṭhitaś cāśvaḥ sopādhyāyo vimucyatām
sambhārāḥ = the ingredients of the sacrifice; sambhriyantām = arrange for; me = my; gurūṇām = gurus’; vacanāt = on the authority of, instruction; iha = now; samartha-adhiṣṭhitaḥ ca = it is protected by capable people; aśvaḥ = the horse; sa-upādhyāyaḥ = with the sacrificial priests; vimucyatām = release.
On the authority of my gurus’ instruction, arrange for the ingredients of the sacrifice now. Release the horse with the sacrificial priests. It is protected by capable people.
[2] catuḥśatā rakṣanti yajñasyāghātāya.
The horse was protected by four hundred guardians [2].
