Chapter 8: Daśaratha Decides to Perform the Aśvamedha Sacrifice
Text 1.8.18
तद्यथा विधिपूर्वं मे क्रतुरेष समाप्यते।
तथा विधानं क्रियतां समर्थाः करणेष्विह॥
tad yathā vidhi-pūrvaṁ me kratur eṣa samāpyate
tathā vidhānaṁ kriyatāṁ samarthāḥ karaṇeṣv iha
tat yathā vidhi-pūrvam = without any offense; me = of mine; kratuḥ = sacrifice; eṣaḥ = this; samāpyate = to complete; tathā vidhānam kriyatām = please endeavor; samarthāḥ = you are competent; karaṇeṣu iha = in sacrificial performances.
You are competent in sacrificial performances. Please endeavor to complete this sacrifice of mine without any offense.
He then announced the desired result. He appreciated them by saying that they were competent in sacrificial performances.
