Chapter 4: Daśaratha’s Anxiety About Coronating Rāma

द्वाःस्थैरावेदितं तस्य रामायागमनं पुनः।
श्रुत्वैव चापि रामस्तं प्राप्तं शङ्कान्वितोऽभवत्॥
dvāḥsthair āveditaṁ tasya rāmāyāgamanaṁ punaḥ
śrutvaiva cāpi rāmas taṁ prāptaṁ śaṅkānvito ’bhavat
dvāḥsthaiḥ = the gatekeepers; āveditam = informed; tasya = about Sumantra’s; rāmāya = Rāma; āgamanam punaḥ = re-arrival; śrutvā eva ca api = as soon as He learnt; rāmaḥ = Rāma; tam = that he; prāptam = had come; śaṅkā-anvitaḥ = apprehensive; abhavat = became.
The gatekeepers informed Rāma about Sumantra’s re-arrival. As soon as He learnt that he had come, Rāma became apprehensive.
Rāma became apprehensive, “Has any obstacle to the coronation come about? Or has some other calamity come about?”
