Chapter 4: Daśaratha’s Anxiety About Coronating Rāma
Text 2.4.21
अद्य चन्द्रोऽभ्युपगतः पुष्यात्पूर्वं पुनर्वसु।
श्वः पुष्ययोगं नियतं वक्ष्यन्ते दैवचिन्तकाः॥
adya candro ’bhyupagataḥ puṣyāt pūrvaṁ punarvasu
śvaḥ puṣya-yogaṁ niyataṁ vakṣyante daiva-cintakāḥ
adya = today; candraḥ = the moon; abhyupagataḥ = is in communion; puṣyāt = to Puṣya; pūrvam = that appears prior; punarvasu = with the nakṣatra Punarvasu; śvaḥ = that tomorrow; puṣya-yogam = the moon’s communion with the nakṣatra Puṣya; niyatam = is prescribed for the coronation ceremony; vakṣyante = say; daiva-cintakāḥ = astrologers.
Today, the moon is in communion with the nakṣatra Punarvasu that appears prior to Puṣya. Astrologers say that tomorrow the moon’s communion with the nakṣatra Puṣya is prescribed for the coronation ceremony.
The next day, the communion of the moon with Puṣya is prescribed, that is, considered to be good, for the coronation ceremony by astrologers who were well aware of the movements of heavenly bodies.
