उपस्थितं प्रयुञ्जानस्त्वयि सान्त्वमनर्थकम्।
अर्थेनैवाद्य ते भर्ता कौसल्यां योजयिष्यति॥
upasthitaṁ prayuñjānas tvayi sāntvam anarthakam
arthenaivādya te bhartā kausalyāṁ yojayiṣyati
upasthitam = when needed; prayuñjānaḥ = he deals; tvayi = with you; sāntvam = pleasantly; anarthakam = to destroy your wealth; arthena eva = the wealth; adya = now; te = your; bhartā = husband; kausalyām = to Kausalyā; yojayiṣyati = will give.
He deals with you pleasantly when needed to destroy your wealth.1 Now your husband will give the wealth to Kausalyā.

This was Mantharā’s illogic understandable only to herself but it began having an effect on Kaikeyī. Kaikeyī should have cut out Mantharā’s attempts to steer their conversation in this direction but she didn’t and the rest is history. A lesson for all women.
