Chapter 8: The Conversation Between Kaikeyī and Mantharā
Text 2.8.23
न हि राज्ञः सुताः सर्वे राज्ये तिष्ठन्ति भामिनि।
स्थाप्यमानेषु सर्वेषु सुमहाननयो भवेत्॥
na hi rājñaḥ sutāḥ sarve rājye tiṣṭhanti bhāmini
sthāpyamāneṣu sarveṣu sumahān anayo bhavet
na hi = not; rājñaḥ = of a king’s; sutāḥ = sons; sarve = all; rājye = a kingdom; tiṣṭhanti = do rule; bhāmini = angry lady 3; sthāpyamāneṣu = are made to rule [a kingdom]; sarveṣu = when all; sumahān = a very great; anayaḥ = state of opposition to law and order; bhavet = arises.
Angry lady, all of a king’s sons do not rule a kingdom. When all are made to rule [a kingdom], very great state of opposition to law and order arises.
GLOSS. Bhāminī indicates that Kaikeyī was filled with prowess.
