Chapter 9: Kaikeyī Convinced by Mantharā
Text 2.9.37
सा हि वाक्येन कुब्जायाः किशोरीवोत्पथं गता।
कैकेयी विस्मयं प्राप्ता परं परमदर्शना॥
sā hi vākyena kubjāyāḥ kiśorīvotpathaṁ gatā
kaikeyī vismayaṁ prāptā paraṁ parama-darśanā
sā hi = she; vākyena = by the words; kubjāyāḥ = of the hunchback; kiśorī = a mare; iva = resembled; utpatham = off track; gatā = that had gotten; kaikeyī = Kaikeyī; vismayam = astonished; prāptā = became; param = extremely; parama-darśanā = who was formerly most beautiful to see.
Kaikeyī, who was formerly most beautiful to see, became extremely astonished by the words of the hunchback. She resembled a mare that had gotten off track.
