Chapter 12: Kaikeyī Reaffirms her Demands
Text 2.12.1
ततः श्रुत्वा महाराजः कैकेय्या दारुणं वचः।
चिन्तामभिसमापेदे मुहूर्तं प्रतताप च॥
tataḥ śrutvā mahā-rājaḥ kaikeyyā dāruṇaṁ vacaḥ
cintām abhisamāpede muhūrtaṁ pratatāpa ca
tataḥ śrutvā = upon hearing; mahā-rājaḥ = Mahārāja Daśaratha; kaikeyyāḥ = Kaikeyī’s; dāruṇam = terrible; vacaḥ = words; cintām = anxiety; abhisamāpede = became full of; muhūrtam = for a while; pratatāpa = he anguished senselessly; ca = and.
Upon hearing Kaikeyī’s terrible words, Mahārāja Daśaratha became full of anxiety and he anguished senselessly for a while.
This chapter describes the king’s lamentation when he was bound by the noose of honesty.
