Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 12: Kaikeyī Reaffirms her Demands
Text 2.12.23

अत्यन्तसुकुमारस्य तस्य धर्मे धृतात्मनः।
कथं रोचयसे वासमरण्ये भृशदारुणे॥

atyanta-sukumārasya tasya dharme dhṛtātmanaḥ
kathaṁ rocayase vāsam araṇye bhṛśa-dāruṇe

atyanta-sukumārasya = who is extremely tender in youth; tasya = Him; dharme = on dharma; dhṛta-ātmanaḥ = and whose mind is fixed; katham = how is it that; rocayase = you like; vāsam = to live; araṇye = in the forest; bhṛśa-dāruṇe = O extremely harsh woman.

O extremely harsh woman, how is it that you like Him who is extremely tender in youth and whose mind is fixed on dharma to live in the forest?

Daśaratha points out to Kaikeyī that Rāma’s residence in the forest is unsuited to Rāma’s very tender youth.
