Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 12: Kaikeyī Reaffirms her Demands
Text 2.12.71

इदानीं तत्तपति मां यन्मया सुकृतं त्वयि।
अपथ्यव्यञ्जनोपेतं भुक्तमन्नमिवातुरम्॥

idānīṁ tat tapati māṁ yat mayā sukṛtaṁ tvayi
apathya-vyañjanopetaṁ bhuktam annam ivāturam

idānīm = now; tat = it; tapati = hurts; mām = me; yat = that; mayā = I have; sukṛtam = the good done; tvayi = for you; apathya-vyañjana-upetam = mixed with unhealthy eatables; bhuktam = upon being eaten; annam = [healthy] food; iva = is like; āturam = that causes disease.

It now hurts me that the good I have done for you is like [healthy] food mixed with unhealthy eatables that causes disease upon being eaten.

Daśaratha now saw Kaikeyī’s wickedness. He felt that if he had not taken care of her at all, he would not have been hurt like this now. He implied that she hadn’t loved him the way he had loved her.
