Chapter 16: Rāma Passes Through the Grand Road to Meet Daśaratha
Text 2.16.4

ते समीक्ष्य समायान्तं रामप्रियचिकीर्षवः।
सहसोत्पतिताः सर्वे स्वासनेभ्यः ससम्भ्रमाः॥

te samīkṣya samāyāntaṁ rāma-priya-cikīrṣavaḥ
sahasotpatitāḥ sarve svāsanebhyaḥ sasambhramāḥ

te = of them; samīkṣya = noticing; samāyāntam = Sumantra coming [to see Rāma]; rāma-priya-cikīrṣavaḥ = [since] they desired to please Rāma; sahasā = and immediately; utpatitāḥ = got up; sarve = all; sva-āsanebhyaḥ = from their seats; sasambhramāḥ = hastily.

Noticing Sumantra coming [to see Rāma], all of them hastily and immediately got up from their seats [since] they desired to please Rāma.1

1 One pleases the Supreme Lord by pleasing His dear devotees. Sumantra’s great devotion to Lord Rāmacandra will be evident when he begs Rāma to allow him to be with Him in the forest for fourteen years, serving Him like Lakṣmaṇa.
