Chapter 16: Rāma Passes Through the Grand Road to Meet Daśaratha
Text 2.16.47

करेणुमातङ्गरथाश्वसङ्कुलं महाजनौघप्रतिपूर्णचत्वरम्।
प्रभूतरत्नं बहुपण्यसञ्चयं ददर्श रामो रुचिरं महापथम्॥

kareṇu-mātaṅga-rathāśva-saṅkulaṁ
mahā-janaugha-prati-pūrṇa-catvaram
prabhūta-ratnaṁ bahu-paṇya-sañcayam
dadarśa rāmo ruciraṁ mahā-patham

kareṇu-mātaṅga-ratha-aśva-saṅkulam = it was packed with male and female elephants, chariots and horses; mahā-jana-ogha-prati-pūrṇa-catvaram = every crossroad in the road was crowded with important people; prabhūta-ratnam = it was filled with abundant jewels; bahu-paṇya-sañcayam = and it had shops selling various merchandise; dadarśa = saw; rāmaḥ = Rāma; ruciram = the pleasant; mahā-patham = main road.

Rāma saw the pleasant main road. It was packed with male and female elephants, chariots and horses. Every crossroad in the road was crowded with important people. It was filled with abundant jewels and it had shops selling various merchandise.
