स घोषवद्भिश्च हयैर्मतङ्गजैः पुरस्सरैः स्वस्तिकसूतमागधैः।
महीयमानः प्रवरैश्च वादकैरभिष्टुतो वैश्रवणो यथा ययौ॥

puraḥsaraiḥ svastika-sūta-māgadhaiḥ
mahīyamānaḥ pravaraiś ca vādakair
abhiṣṭuto vaiśravaṇo yathā yayau
saḥ = Śrī Rāmacandra; ghoṣavadbhiḥ = with neighing; ca = and; hayaiḥ = horses; mataṅgajaiḥ = and elephants; puraḥsaraiḥ = in front of Him; svastika-sūta-māgadhaiḥ = by vandīs, sūtas and magadhas; mahīyamānaḥ = while He was honored; pravaraiḥ = by excellent; ca = and; vādakaiḥ = professional reciters; abhiṣṭutaḥ = glorified; vaiśravaṇaḥ = Kuvera; yathā = like; yayau = proceeded forward.
Śrī Rāmacandra proceeded forward like Kuvera with neighing horses and elephants in front of Him while He was honored by vandīs, sūtas and māgadhas and glorified by excellent professional reciters.
The vandīs recite auspicious utterances such as “Jaya! Jaya!” Sūtas are born of a brāhmaṇī mother and a kṣatriya father. They are employed as charioteers and glorification [of the royalty]: brāhmaṇyāṁ kṣatriyāt sūtaḥ (Amara). Māgadhas are born of a kṣatriyā mother and a vaiśya father. They are employed in waking up kings: māgadhaḥ kṣatriyā-viśoḥ (Amara).
