Chapter 18: Kaikeyī Informs Rāma About the two Boons
Text 2.18.19
एवमुक्ता तु कैकेयी राघवेण महात्मना।
उवाचेदं सुनिर्लज्जा धृष्टमात्महितं वचः॥
evam uktā tu kaikeyī rāghaveṇa mahātmanā
uvācedaṁ sunirlajjā dhṛṣṭam ātma-hitaṁ vacaḥ
evam = thus; uktā tu = was addressed; kaikeyī = when Kaikeyī; rāghaveṇa = Rāghava; mahā-ātmanā = by the great soul; uvāca = she spoke; idam = the following; sunirlajjā = shamelessly; dhṛṣṭam = arrogant; ātma-hitam = for her selfish purposes; vacaḥ = words.
When Kaikeyī was addressed thus by the great soul Rāghava, she shamelessly spoke the following arrogant words for her selfish purposes.
Kaikeyī’s words were arrogant for she spoke about what is undesirable to Rāma on His face with no fear whatsoever.
