Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 18: Kaikeyī Informs Rāma About the two Boons
Text 2.18.24
धर्ममूलमिदं राम विदितं च सतामपि।
तत्सत्यं न त्यजेद्राजा कुपितेस्त्वत्कृते यथा॥
dharma-mūlam idaṁ rāma viditaṁ ca satām api
tat satyaṁ na tyajed rājā kupitas tvat-kṛte yathā
dharma-mūlam = is founded on dharma; idam = this world; rāma = Rāma; viditam = this; ca = and; satām api = is known to the saints; tat = so; satyam = the dharma of truthfulness; na = not; tyajet = does give up; rājā = the king; kupitaḥ = out of his anger at me; tvat-kṛte = for Your sake; yathā = do that by which.
Rāma, this world is founded on dharma and this is known to the saints. So, do that by which the king does not give up the dharma of truthfulness for Your sake out of his anger at me.
She then anticipated that Rāmacandra would request her to describe the details [of the boon granted to her by Daśaratha] and so spoke the next verse.
