Chapter 19: Rāma Promises to Leave for the Forest
Text 2.19.23
अनुक्तोऽप्यत्रभवता भवत्या वचनादहम्।
वने वत्स्यामि विजने वर्षाणीह चतुर्दश॥
anukto ’py atra-bhavatā bhavatyā vacanād aham
vane vatsyāmi vijane varṣāṇīha caturdaśa
anuktaḥ = has not instructed Me; api = even though; atra-bhavatā = My revered father; bhavatyāḥ = your; vacanāt = on order; aham = I; vane = in the forest; vatsyāmi = will live; vijane = lonely; varṣāṇi = years; iha = in this matter; caturdaśa = for fourteen.
Even though My revered father has not instructed Me in this matter, I will live in the lonely forest for fourteen years on your order.
