Chapter 20: Kausalyā’s Lamentation
Text 2.20.11
प्रविश्य प्रथमां कक्ष्यां द्वितीयायां ददर्श सः।
ब्राह्मणान्वेदसम्पन्नान्वृद्धान्राज्ञाभिसत्कृतान्॥
praviśya prathamāṁ kakṣyāṁ dvitīyāyāṁ dadarśa saḥ
brāhmaṇān veda-sampannān vṛddhān rājñābhisatkṛtān
praviśya = after entering; prathamām = the first; kakṣyām = gate; dvitīyāyām = before the second gate; dadarśa = saw; saḥ = He; brāhmaṇān = that there were brāhmaṇas; veda-sampannān = who were endowed with Vedic knowledge; vṛddhān = elderly; rājñā = by the king; abhisatkṛtān = and who were greatly honored.
After entering the first gate, He saw that there were elderly brāhmaṇas, who were endowed with Vedic knowledge and who were greatly honored by the king, before the second gate.
