Chapter 20: Kausalyā’s Lamentation
Text 2.20.22
तमुवाच दुराधर्षं राघवं सुतमात्मनः।
कौसल्या पुत्रवात्सल्यादिदं प्रियहितं वचः॥
tam uvāca durādharṣaṁ rāghavaṁ sutam ātmanaḥ
kausalyā putra-vātsalyād idaṁ priya-hitaṁ vacaḥ
tam = the; uvāca = spoke; durādharṣam = unassailable; rāghavam = Rāghava; sutam = son; ātmanaḥ = to her; kausalyā = Kausalyā; putra-vātsalyāt = out of affection for her son; idam = the following; priya-hitam = pleasant and beneficial; vacaḥ = words.
Out of affection for her son, Kausalyā spoke the following pleasant and beneficial words to her son, the unassailable Rāghava.
GLOSS. Rāghava was unassailable in His determination to reside in the forest. Priya-hitam can indicate that Rāghava benefitted His beloved father.
