चतुर्दश हि वर्षाणि वत्स्यामि विजने वने।
मधुमूलफलैर्जीवन्हित्वा मुनिवदामिषम्॥
caturdaśa hi varṣāṇi vatsyāmi vijane vane
madhu-mūla-phalair jīvan hitvā munivad āmiṣam
caturdaśa hi = for fourteen; varṣāṇi = years; vatsyāmi = I will live; vijane = in the secluded; vane = forest; madhu-mūla-phalaiḥ = on honey, roots and fruits; jīvan = subsisting; hitvā = having given up; munivat = like a sage; āmiṣam = royal objects of enjoyment.
Having given up royal objects of enjoyment, I will live in the secluded forest for fourteen years like a sage, subsisting on honey, roots and fruits.1
