ममैव नूनं मरणं न विद्यते न चावकाशोऽस्ति यमक्षये मम।
यदन्तकोऽद्यैव न मां जिहीर्षति प्रसह्य सिंहो रुदतीं मृगीमिव॥
mamaiva nūnaṁ maraṇaṁ na vidyate
na cāvakāśo ’sti yama-kṣaye mama
yad antako ’dyaiva na māṁ jihīrṣati
prasahya siṁho rudatīṁ mṛgīm iva
mama eva = upon me; nūnam = so far; maraṇam = death; na vidyate = has not come; na ca = nor; avakāśaḥ asti = have an opportunity; yama-kṣaye = [to go] to Yama’s abode; mama = do I; yad = because; antakaḥ = death; adya eva = now; na = not; mām = me; jihīrṣati = does desire to seize; prasahya = forcibly; siṁhaḥ = a lion [that abducts]; rudatīm = a crying; mṛgīm = female deer; iva = like.
Death has not come upon me so far, nor do I have an opportunity [to go] to Yama’s abode because death does not desire to forcibly seize me now like a lion [that abducts] a crying female deer.
