Chapter 21: Rāma Consoles Kausalyā and Lakṣmaṇa
Text 2.21.5
अहं हनिष्ये पितरं वृद्धं कामवशं गतम्।
स्त्रिया युक्तं च निर्लज्जं धर्मायुक्तं नृपं यथा॥
ahaṁ haniṣye pitaraṁ vṛddhaṁ kāma-vaśaṁ gatam
striyā yuktaṁ ca nirlajjaṁ dharmāyuktaṁ nṛpaṁ yathā
aham = I; haniṣye = will kill; pitaram = My father; vṛddham = he is senile; kāma-vaśam gatam = fallen prey to lust; striyā = by a woman; yuktam = engaged; ca = and; nirlajjam = shameless; dharma-ayuktam = an adhārmika; nṛpam = king; yathā = like.
I will kill My father. He is senile, fallen prey to lust, engaged by a woman, shameless and like an adhārmika king.
