Chapter 21: Rāma Consoles Kausalyā and Lakṣmaṇa
Text 2.21.34
जामदग्नयेन रामेण रेणुका जननी स्वयम्।
कृत्ता परशुनारण्ये पितृर्वचनकारिणा॥
jāmadagnyena rāmeṇa reṇukā jananī svayam
kṛttā paraśunāraṇye pitur vacanakāriṇā
jāmadagnyena = the son of Jamadagni; rāmeṇa = Rāma; reṇukā = Reṇukā; jananī svayam = his own mother; kṛttā = cut; paraśunā = with an axe; araṇye = in the forest; pituḥ = his father’s; vacanakāriṇā = in obedience to order.
Rāma, the son of Jamadagni, cut his own mother Reṇukā with an axe in a forest in obedience to his father’s order.
