Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 23: Lakṣmaṇa’s Arguments
Text 2.23.6

कथं ह्येतदसम्भ्रान्तस्त्वद्विधो वक्तुमर्हति।
यथा दैवमशौण्डीरं शौण्डीर क्षत्रियर्षभ॥

kathaṁ hy etad asambhrāntas tvad-vidho vaktum arhati
yathā daivam aśauṇḍīraṁ śauṇḍīra kṣatriya-rṣabha

katham hi = how; etat = this; asambhrāntaḥ = a sober person; tvat-vidhaḥ = like You; vaktum arhati = can state; yathā = like; daivam = about providence; aśauṇḍīram = which is incompetent; śauṇḍīra = O competent one; kṣatriya-ṛṣabha = O best of the kṣatriyas.

O competent one, O best of the kṣatriyas, how can a sober person like You speak like this about providence, which is incompetent?

Lakṣmaṇa proves His point here.

Śauṇḍīra indicates that Rāma can certainly cancel the will of providence. Only a confused son of a kṣatriya, devoid of heroism, will accede to this incompetent providence. [This was the view Śrī Lakṣmaṇa presents here.]
