Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 23: Lakṣmaṇa’s Arguments
Text 2.23.10
लोकविद्विष्टमारब्धं त्वदन्यस्याभिषेचनम्।
नोत्सहे सहितुं वीर तत्र मे क्षन्तुमर्हसि॥
loka-vidviṣṭam ārabdhaṁ tvad-anyasyābhiṣecanam
notsahe sahituṁ vīra tatra me kṣantum arhasi
loka-vidviṣṭam = it will [also] be disliked by the [entire] world; ārabdham = the preparation for; tvat-anyasya = anyone other than You; abhiṣecanam = coronating; na utsahe sahitum = I cannot tolerate; vīra = O hero; tatra = in this regard; me = Me; kṣantum arhasi = Please forgive.
O hero, I cannot tolerate the preparation for coronating anyone other than You. It will [also] be disliked by the [entire] world. Please forgive Me in this regard.
Coronating anyone other than Rāmacandra on the throne would be disliked by the world because [Daśaratha] would then have to set aside his eldest son to coronate a younger son.
