Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 23: Lakṣmaṇa’s Arguments
Text 2.23.19
अद्य मत्पौरुषहतं दैवं द्रक्ष्यन्ति वै जनाः।
य द्दैवादाहतं तेऽद्य दृष्टं राज्याभिषेचनम्॥
adya mat-pauruṣa-hataṁ daivaṁ drakṣyanti vai janāḥ
yad daivād āhataṁ te ’dya dṛṣṭaṁ rājyābhiṣecanam
adya = today; mat-pauruṣa-hatam = destroyed by My manly strength; daivam = providence; drakṣyanti vai = will see; janāḥ = people; yat daivāt = because of which; āhatam = was obstructed; te = Your; adya = today; dṛṣṭam = was seen; rājya-abhiṣecanam = royal coronation.
Today people will see providence, because of which Your royal coronation was visibly obstructed today, destroyed by My manly strength.1
1 Lakṣmaṇa now boldly asserts that just as people saw Rāma’s royal coronation destroyed, they will see Rāma being coronated by Lakṣmaṇa’s endeavors.
