Chapter 23: Lakṣmaṇa’s Arguments
Text 2.23.21
लोकपालाः समस्तास्ते नाद्य रामाभिषेचनम्।
न च कृत्स्नास्रयो लोका विहन्युः किं पुनः पिता॥
loka-pālāḥ samastās te nādya rāmābhiṣecanam
na ca kṛtsnās trayo lokā vihanyuḥ kiṁ punaḥ pitā
loka-pālāḥ = loka-pāla demigods; samastāḥ te na = none of the famous; adya = today; rāma-abhiṣecanam = Rāma’s coronation; na = none; ca = and; kṛtsnāḥ trayaḥ lokāḥ = in the three worlds; vihanyuḥ = is capable of preventing; kim punaḥ pitā = what to speak of Our father.
None of the famous loka-pāla demigods and none in the three worlds, what to speak of Our father, is capable of preventing Rāma’s coronation today.
1 None of Lakṣmaṇa’s equals or superiors in the three worlds can prevent Rāma’s coronation if Lakṣmaṇa conducts it.
This verse can also mean “Rāma, none of the famous loka-pāla demigods and none in the three worlds, what to speak of Our father, is capable of preventing Your coronation today.”
“None in the three worlds” refers to none of Lakṣmaṇa’s equals or superiors in the three worlds.1
