Chapter 24: Rāma Instructs Kausalyā
Text 2.24.18
एवमुक्ता प्रियं पुत्रं बाष्पपूर्णानना तदा।
उवाच परमार्ता तु कौसल्या पुत्रवत्सला॥
evam uktā priyaṁ putraṁ bāṣpa-pūrṇānanā tadā
uvāca paramārtā tu kausalyā putra-vatsalā
evam = thus; uktā = when He spoke to her; priyam = to her beloved; putram = son; bāṣpa-pūrṇa-ānanā = her face filled with tears; tadā uvāca = she spoke [as follows]; parama-ārtā tu = was greatly distressed; kausalyā = Kausalyā; putra-vatsalā = affectionate to her son.
Affectionate to her son, Kausalyā was greatly distressed when He spoke to her thus. Her face filled with tears, she spoke to her beloved son [as follows].
