Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 26: Rāma Meets Sītā and Instructs Her
Text 2.26.25
ऋद्धियुक्ता हि पुरुषा न सहन्ते परस्तवम्।
तस्मान्न ते गुणाः कथ्या भरतस्याग्रतो मम॥
ṛddhi-yuktā hi puruṣā na sahante para-stavam
tasmān na te guṇāḥ kathyā bharatasyāgrato mama
ṛddhi-yuktāḥ hi = endowed with prosperity; puruṣāḥ = men; na sahante = don’t tolerate; para-stavam = the glorification of another; tasmāt = so; na = not; te = you; guṇāḥ = about qualities; kathyāḥ = should speak; bharatasya = of Bharata; agrataḥ = in front; mama = My.
Men endowed with prosperity don’t tolerate the glorification of another. So you should not speak about My qualities in front of Bharata.
