Chapter 26: Rāma Meets Sītā and Instructs Her
Text 2.26.35
आराधिता हि शीलेन प्रयत्नैश्चोपसेविताः।
राजानः सम्प्रसीदन्ति प्रकुप्यन्ति विपर्यये॥
ārādhitā hi śīlena prayatnaiś copasevitāḥ
rājānaḥ samprasīdanti prakupyanti viparyaye
ārādhitāḥ hi = when honored; śīlena = without duplicity; prayatnaiḥ = with the endeavor to avoid laziness and so on; ca = and; upasevitāḥ = and served; rājānaḥ = kings; samprasīdanti = become very pleased; prakupyanti = they become very angry; viparyaye = otherwise.
Kings become very pleased when they are honored and served without duplicity and with the endeavor to avoid laziness and so on. They become very angry otherwise.
