Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 29: Sītā Persists in Requesting Him to Take Her to the Forest
Text 2.29.1

एतत्तु वचनं श्रुत्वा सीता रामस्य दुःखिता।
प्रसक्ताश्रुमुखी मन्दमिदं वचनमब्रवीत्॥

etat tu vacanaṁ śrutvā sītā rāmasya duḥkhitā
prasaktāśru-mukhī mandam idaṁ vacanam abravīt

etat tu = these; vacanam = words; śrutvā = upon hearing; sītā = Sītā-devī; rāmasya = of Lord Rāma; duḥkhitā = became sad; prasakta-aśru-mukhī = with some tears on her face; mandam = softly; idam = the following; vacanam = words; abravīt = she spoke.

Sītā-devī became sad upon hearing these words of Lord Rāma. With some tears on her face, she softly spoke the following words.

Even though the author had mentioned at the end of the previous chapter that Mother Sītā “then spoke to Rāma as follows,” he reiterates it in this verse to specifically point out her characteristics [while she spoke to Him].
