Chapter 29: Sītā Persists in Requesting Him to Take Her to the Forest
Text 2.29.24

एवमुक्ता तु सा चिन्तां मैथिली समुपागता।
स्नापयन्तीव गामुष्णैरश्रुभिर्नयनच्युतैः॥

evam uktā tu sā cintāṁ maithilī samupāgatā
snāpayantīva gām uṣṇair aśrubhir nayana-cyutaiḥ

evam = thus; uktā tu = when was spoken to; = she; cintām = anguish; maithilī = Maithilī; samupāgatā = became filled with; snāpayantī = drench; iva = and appeared to; gām = the floor; uṣṇaiḥ = with the hot; aśrubhiḥ = tears; nayana-cyutaiḥ = falling from her eyes.

When Maithilī was spoken to thus, she became filled with anguish and appeared to drench the floor with the hot tears falling from her eyes.
