Chapter 30: Rāma Allows Sītā to Follow Him to the Forest
Text 2.30.23

सा विद्धा बहुभिर्वाक्यैर्दिग्धैरिव गजाङ्गना।
चिरसन्नियतं बाष्पं मुमोचाग्निमिवारणिः॥

sā viddhā bahubhir vākyair digdhair iva gajāṅganā
cira-sanniyataṁ bāṣpaṁ mumocāgnim ivāraṇiḥ

= she; viddhā = struck; bahubhiḥ = by the many; vākyaiḥ = words previously uttered by Rāma; digdhaiḥ = [shot] by poisoned arrows; iva = resembled; gaja-aṅganā = a female elephant; cira-sanniyatam = suppressed for so long; bāṣpam = her tears; mumoca = she let loose; agnim = [is let loose] into the sacrificial fire; iva = just as; araṇiḥ = araṇi wood.

Struck by the many words previously uttered by Rāma, she resembled a female elephant [shot] by poisoned arrows. She let loose her tears, suppressed for so long, just as araṇi wood [is let loose] into the sacrificial fire.

She had suppressed her tears for so long while talking to Him.
