Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 30: Rāma Allows Sītā to Follow Him to the Forest
Text 2.30.39
मम सन्ना मतिःसीते त्वां नेतुं दण्डकावनम्।
वसिष्यामीति सा त्वं मामनुयातुं सुनिश्चिता॥
mama sannā matiḥ sīte tvāṁ netuṁ daṇḍakāvanam
vasiṣyāmīti sā tvaṁ mām anuyātuṁ suniścitā
mama = My; sannā = was conservative [about taking You to Daṇḍakāraṇya]; matiḥ = mind; sīte = Sītā; tvām = you; netum = about taking; daṇḍakāvanam = to Daṇḍakāraṇya; vasiṣyāmi = I will stay [with You in the forest]; iti = by saying; sā tvam = it is you who; mām = Me; anuyātum = to follow; suniścitā = have firmly decided.
Sītā, My mind was conservative about taking you to Daṇḍakāraṇya. It is you who have firmly decided to follow Me by saying, “I will stay [with You in the forest].”
Rāma’s mind was conservative without knowing her intentions. He implies that He now understood her.
