Chapter 30: Rāma Allows Sītā to Follow Him to the Forest
Text 2.30.42
आरभस्व शुभश्रोणि वनवासक्षमाः क्रियाः।
नेदानीं त्वदृते सीते स्वर्गोऽपि मम रोचते॥
ārabhasva śubha-śroṇi vana-vāsa-kṣamāḥ kriyāḥ
nedānīṁ tvad ṛte sīte svargo ’pi mama rocate
ārabhasva = begin; śubha-śroṇi = O lady with auspicious hips; vana-vāsa-kṣamāḥ = to become capable of residing in the forest 6; kriyāḥ = the activities; na = not; idānīm = now; tvat = you; ṛte = without; sīte = Sītā; svargaḥ = Svarga; api = even; mama rocate = does appeal to Me.
Sītā, O lady with auspicious hips, begin the activities to become capable of residing in the forest. Now, even Svarga does not appeal to Me without you.1
1 Notice that Rāma will not bend or break any of the scriptural rules pertaining to residing in the forest to make Sītā-devī happy.
“The activities to become capable of residing in the forest” refer to activities that are beneficial to residing in the forest such as charity.
