Chapter 31: Rāma Allows Lakṣmaṇa to Follow Him to the Forest
Text 2.31.6

एवं ब्रुवाणः सौमित्रिर्वनवासाय निश्चितः।
रामेण बहुभिः सान्त्वैर्निषिद्धः पुनरब्रवीत्॥

evaṁ bruvāṇaḥ saumitrir vana-vāsāya niścitaḥ
āmeṇa bahubhiḥ sāntvair niṣiddhaḥ punar abravīt

evam = thus; bruvāṇaḥ = having spoken; saumitriḥ = Sumitrā’s son; vana-vāsāya = to reside in the forest [with Rāma]; niścitaḥ = decided; rāmeṇa = by Rāma; bahubhiḥ = through many; sāntvaiḥ = words of consolation; niṣiddhaḥ = when He was restrained; punaḥ = again; abravīt = He spoke [as follows].

Having spoken thus, Sumitrā’s son decided to reside in the forest [with Rāma]. When He was restrained by Rāma through many words of consolation, He spoke again [as follows].
